Music in its name

The beautiful voice of the Calliope Hummingbird is the source of its name. Calliope refers to the Muse Calliope, the muse of epic poetry and of imposing eloquence in Greek mythology. The Calliope Hummingbird is the only species of the Stellula genus. Stellula means "little star."
